Rebel Rousers

Directed by Martin B.Cohen (1970)
.... Paul Collier, Bruce Dern, Diane Ladd, Jack Nicholson, Harry Dean Stanton.
A rip-roarin', rebel-rousin' motorcycle gang skids into a small US coastal town -- with trouble in mind. To the dismay of the law-abiding citizens, the gang decide to hold a drag race there. Even more disturbing is the "prize" the winner will receive: the pregnant girlfriend of one of the townsfolk.. Cameron Mitchell plays Paul, a middle-class businessman in a stormy romance trying to reconnect with his pregnant girlfriend Karen (Diane Ladd). Paul meets a former high-school buddy played by Bruce Dern, the leader of a gang of misfit bikers. When the gang comes upon the couple and beats up Paul and begins a sexual assault of Karen, J.J. tries to intervene by suggesting the drag race/ motorcycle cycle-riding contest- The pregnant Karen is the prize. After the contest starts, Paul sneaks away to look for help. The sheriff's department are not interested in intervening.
At first glance The Rebel Rousers seems nothing more than another good guy versus evil biker gang movie. A closer examination reveals a deeper story of the conflict between the rebel and 'normal' society.
Both men seem both happy and sad to see each other. Each is intrigued by the other's lifestyle. Jack Nicholson plays Bunny, a psychotic member of the Rebels who attempts to rape the wife played by Dianne Ladd. Mitchell and Dern stop this from happening.
